GUILDERLAND — Police were called to the Funny Bone comedy club in Guilderland Friday after a woman allegedly disrupted a comedian’s set, causing her to be kicked out of the show, police say.
Godfrey, host of the 2016 stand-up comedy special “Real Black,” was scheduled to appear on stage that night.
Guilderland Police Investigator Kris Scarano said a woman watching the show “was just being too obnoxious” during the performance and was told to leave.
Scarano said “there may have been some water thrown” at some point, before security escorted the woman out of the comedy club, which has a full bar and restaurant inside. Godfrey was also scheduled to appear Saturday night at Funny Bone. Tickets are $32 for general admission.
The woman did not face any charges, although she was banned from the Funny Bone and the mall, Scarano said. The incident sparked some interest on social media Saturday as a recording of police responding to the report circulated.
In live comedy, heckling is not unusual, but as comedian Erin Jackson told NPR in 2012, police having to be called to comedy shows is much rarer.
The Times Union reached out to the Funny Bone for comment, as well as to a Crossgates Mall spokesperson. Crossgates is owned by Pyramid Management Group of Syracuse.
