Manhattan High senior Vince Doering was selected to play in the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association All-Star game, set for June 20 in Salina.
Doering was named to the Blue Team roster following a senior season that helped lead Manhattan to a 17-8 record, a Centennial League championship and a return trip to the Class 6A state tournament.
The senior guard averaged 12.6 points, 3.9 assists, 2.9 rebounds and 3.5 steals per game during his final season with the Indians. Doering also finished his career as Manhattan’s all-time steals leader with 146 career takeaways while setting the program’s single-season steals record this winter.
Doering was one of three Indians to earn All-Centennial League honors this season, joining first-team selection Will Carpenter and second-team honoree Sawyer Newton. Manhattan head coach Benji George was also voted the league’s Coach of the Year.
Rock Creek senior Gavin Rosa was also selected to the KBCA All-Star Game and will play for the Gold Team. Rosa helped guide the Mustangs to a 27-1 record and a Class 4A state runner-up finish this winter.
The Mercury’s All-Flint Hills Player of the Year and the NCKL Player of the Year, Rosa averaged 15.2 points, four rebounds, two assists and a steal per game while shooting 48 percent from three-point range.
He knocked down 112 3-pointers during the season, breaking the previous Kansas state record for made triples in a season. Rock Creek also set a new state record for team 3-pointers in a season with 261.
