BROOKLYN HEIGHTS — THE BROOKLYN BAR Association will feature a presentation spotlighting immigration, diversity and inclusion through 250 years of American democracy.
The event is slated to take place the evening of May 19 at the organization’s historic headquarters, 123 Remsen St. Four panelists will be speaking at the program, including Anthony Vaughn Jr., Esq., Danielle Noel, Esq., Neal Bhushan, Esq., and Melissa Chua, Esq.
The presentation will reflect on how the legal system has expanded and restricted opportunity throughout American history. Ronald Cosme Jr., Esq., principal law clerk for Hon. Joanne Quinones, will speak at the event.
“America’s legal system has continually grappled with some fundamental questions, such as, who belongs? Who has access to justice? Who has a voice in our institutions?” Cosme said. “The conversation will invite us to reflect on how our legal system has evolved — sometimes imperfectly, sometimes progressively — in defining who has access to opportunity, justice and participation in American society.”
The BBA’s primary purpose is to promote professional competence among attorneys and increase respect for the legal system. It also works to ensure all Brooklyn residents have equal access to the criminal and civil justice systems. The association’s mission is further supported by its Access to Justice Task Force, and other initiatives focused on diversity, inclusion and equity.
