Manhattan High’s girls’ track and field team continued its Centennial League dominance Thursday in Junction City, capturing its seventh straight league title.

The Indians rolled to the team championship by more than 100 points, while the boys battled to a second-place finish behind the host Blue Jay boys.

Junior Kayla Cramer delivered the headline moment for Manhattan, breaking the school record in the pole vault. Cramer cleared 10 feet to win the league title, surpassing the previous school mark of 9-7 set by Montana Kubista in 2015.

The girls loaded up the top of the podium throughout the meet.

Junior Gabby Converse claimed league titles in both the 800 and 1,600, running 2:21.07 and 5:25.40, respectively, while also helping Manhattan’s 4×400 relay to a first-place finish in 4:11.28.

Michelle Jeje won the 200 in 25.99 and teamed with Demya Gill, Sarah Oberreuter and Sophie Stanley to win the 4×100 relay in 48.67. Gill also captured the 100-meter title in 12.27, while Jeje finished runner-up.

Lauren Perry added another individual league championship in the 400 with a time of 58.49 while also running on the winning 4×400 and 4×800 relays. Zara Koehn, Talia Tindall and Averie Phillips joined Perry on the first-place 4×800 squad that clocked 10:07.60.

In the field events, Sophia Peabody won the high jump at 5-2, Jorryn Hall captured the shot put title with a throw of 41-3 1/2 and Joss Hall earned a league title in discus at 126-6.

The boys’ side saw Manhattan pile up first-place finishes across multiple event groups.

Senior Wilson Wesch won the 1,600 league title in 4:25.65, while Lucas Strawn claimed the pole vault title after clearing 13-6. Derrick Amos took first in the high jump at 6-4, and Brady Durtschi captured the triple jump crown with a mark of 45-0 1/2.

Evan Middleton added another league championship in the shot put with a throw of 54-5 1/2.

Manhattan also earned runner-up finishes from Caleb Brumbaugh in the long jump, Leo Kane in the 110 hurdles and both the 4×100 and 4×800 relay teams.

Manhattan will now turn its attention toward the postseason, beginning with the regional meet Friday at Washburn Rural before the Class 6A state meet May 29-30 in Wichita.
