MIDTOWN, Manhattan (PIX11) — A woman was killed after falling into a manhole in Midtown Manhattan, according to the NYPD.
The incident happened near 653 5th Avenue around 11:19 p.m. on Monday.
Police say they responded to a 911 call at the location and found a 56-year-old female inside an uncovered manhole.
EMS transported the victim to a local hospital, where she was pronounced deceased.
Sources say the victim had parked her car and stepped out right into the manhole.
Investigations of the incident are ongoing, and no arrests have been made.

Con Edison said in a statement, “We are deeply saddened to confirm that a member of the public has died after falling into an open manhole. We are actively investigating how this occurred. Our thoughts are with the individual’s family, and safety remains our top priority.”
