Two 6-year-olds who were critically hurt in a fire in the Bronx last week have died, the FDNY said Tuesday.
The blaze broke out at a building on Bainbridge Avenue in Fordham on May 11, killing a 1-year-old boy and leaving a 6-year-old boy and a 6-year-old girl in critical condition, police said.

The FDNY on Tuesday confirmed that the two 6-year-olds died after they were hospitalized. Their names weren’t immediately released.
Police previously identified the 1-year-old boy as Liam Parks.
While the FDNY hasn’t yet said what caused the blaze, fire officials said it may have spread because the door to an apartment inside the building was left open.
“It appears the apartment door was left open,” Malcolm Moore, the assistant fire chief of special operations, said last week. “The most important thing we can do in these fires to get other residents in the building and even yourself more time is to close the door behind you.”
The FDNY conducted outreach about fire safety in the neighborhood days after the blaze.

FDNY Commissioner Lillian Bonsignore, meanwhile, issued a warning about the dangers of leaving doors open during a fire evacuation.
“Anytime you have a pathway for the fire and smoke to travel, it just moves faster and gets more severe,” she said in an interview with NY1. “We want to create obstacles and blocks along the way.”
