STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A wind advisory is in effect for Staten Island from noon until midnight Friday, with gusts up to 45 mph expected during Halloween activities, according to the National Weather Service.

Residents should secure outdoor decorations and be cautious of potentially dangerous conditions while trick-or-treating.

The strongest winds are forecast to occur Friday afternoon and evening, with sustained values close to 30 mph and gusts reaching 45 mph. Isolated peak gusts of 45 to 50 mph are possible across Staten Island and the NYC metro area.

The National Weather Service warns these conditions could impact Halloween celebrations, particularly during evening hours when winds will still be rather strong through midnight.

Temperatures on Friday will reach the 50s during the day before falling to between 40 and 45 degrees overnight. The gusty conditions are the result of low pressure deepening as it lifts into New England and eastern Canada.

Saturday will remain breezy with gusts of 20-25 mph, higher near coastal areas, before winds diminish late in the afternoon. High temperatures will again reach the 50s, with overnight lows dropping to 40-45 degrees along the coast.

Sunday brings much calmer conditions as high pressure builds into the region. Winds will be significantly weaker with seasonably cool temperatures in the middle to upper 50s. Sunday night will be mostly clear with lows in the upper 30s to middle 40s.

Looking ahead to early next week, Monday will see some warming with highs potentially reaching the upper 50s to lower 60s. A cold front is expected to pass through Monday night into Tuesday, bringing a chance of showers. Seasonably cool conditions will return by midweek, with another fast-moving cold front possible on Thursday.
