NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) — A heat surge is moving into the city on Wednesday, with temperatures expected to climb back into the 90s.
As the intense heat lingers, Con Edison crews are preparing for higher energy demand as more people running air conditioners puts extra pressure on the grid.

With possible storms in the mix, outages are a real concern. Crews will be working to keep service running, but officials are asking everyone to do their part: use less energy when possible and stay safe.
New Yorkers are encouraged to keep blinds closed and to limit the use of appliances throughout the day.
New York City officials declared a Code Red, which will last until 8 p.m.
“We’re gonna have city workers out across the five boroughs, and they’re gonna be welcoming people into cooling centers,” said Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
Officials encourage residents to stay hydrated throughout the day.
