PELHAM BAY PARK, The Bronx (PIX11) — A big upgrade to a beloved New York City beach will make for more summer fun for visitors this season.
The Orchard Beach Pavilion in the Bronx is set to reopen to the public for the first time in 17 years, bringing revamped concession spaces and improved accessibility for 1.6 million beachgoers.

The 1930s-era structure and New York City landmark will now feature ramps to its elevated central plaza for sweeping views of the beach. Visitors will also have more concession options on the upper and lower levels, along with access to new bathrooms, modernized support spaces and utilities.
While bringing the past into the future, developers maintained the Pavilion’s original design with its blue terracotta tiles, terrazzo floors and cast iron metalwork.

The renovations come by way of a $114 million reconstruction project between NYC Parks and the New York City Economic Development Corporation.
Orchard Beach, also known as the Bronx Riviera, will reopen for the season on Saturday, along with all of the NYC parks’ free public beaches.
