On Saturday, May 23, the Southeast Queens Center for History and Culture (SEQCHC) will once again roll through the streets of South Jamaica for the second annual Jazz and Heritage Bike Tour. The cycling event invites participants to pedal through landmark sites that celebrate the borough’s deep-rooted musical history.

The bike tour will be held this weekend from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., starting at the Black Spectrum Theatre, located at 177-01 Baisley Blvd. in Jamaica.

As confirmed in the advertisement, the Jazz and Heritage Bike Tour will push its pedals towards the following stops:

The historic homes of Ella Fitzgerald, John Coltrane, James Brown and Fats Waller
Nu-Clear Cleaners site of Tribe Called Quest video
Local SEQ murals
The Black Spectrum Theatre, where the bike tour will begin

The SEQCHC, a Queens-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is dedicated to promoting and celebrating the cultural tapestry of Southeast Queens. Ayanna Telfort, the president and co-founder of SEQCHC, began the first-ever bike tour in 2025 to give participants of all ages a chance to discover the area’s defining historical significance, as shared with QNS last year. This year, it will continue its tradition of bringing families and cyclists together for an enjoyable yet educational summer event.

For those interested in registering, the general admission fee is $25 for adults, $15 for minor cyclists (ages 12-17) and $5 for non-rider participants. It is also encouraged to submit an additional donation to support their preservation efforts. The fee includes a free t-shirt, refreshments, cycling giveaways and a tour of the Black Spectrum Theatre historical pavilion.

The Black Spectrum Theatre is a contemporary performing arts center and theater company that provides a platform for African-American directors, playwrights and other artists. The theatre also serves to cultivate a creative scene in Southeast Queens, fueling motivation for locals to advocate for the continued preservation of its performing arts roots.

As of press time, the event has raised $680, surpassing its $500 goal — a testament to increased support for the Southeast Queens bike tour.
