If you’re a soccer fan living in New York City, Mayor Zohran Mamdani has your back.
The mayor has secured 1,000 World Cup tickets for New Yorkers at $50 each after negotiating “directly with FIFA president Gianni Infantino,” according to The Athletic.
The tickets will be for five group-stage matches, a round of 32 tie and a round of 16 game, but not the World Cup final on July 19, per The Athletic.
Fans can purchase up to two upper-bowl seats to one of the seven matches, plus a free round-trip bus ride.
Per The Athletic:
The World Cup tickets will be available solely to New York City residents. Those who secure the tickets will be required to show evidence they live there. Any resident over the age of 15 will be permitted to join the lottery, and winners will be drawn at random.

The window to enter will open at 10am ET on Monday, May 25, closing at 5pm. Up to 50,000 people per day will be able to apply. The successful applicants will then be informed on Wednesday, June 3 and be permitted to buy up to two tickets each, which will allow a parent to take a child.
New Jersey political leaders did not ask for a similar deal, The Athletic reported.
“This program exists because the mayor was determined to make sure working New Yorkers would be in the stands when the World Cup comes home to New York,” Mamdani’s World Cup czar Maya Handa said. “A kid in the Bronx, a security guard in Queens, a restaurant worker in Brooklyn or Staten Island — they are going to walk into the stadium this summer because their city fought for them to be there.”
