Now isn’t this news sweet!

Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York) will launch a North American Tour in the fall of 2027. The tour will premiere at Providence Performing Arts Center in Providence, Rhode Island, before continuing onto cities across the U.S. and Canada. Additional tour stops and casting will be announced at a later date.

“It’s been thrilling to see audiences connect and fall in love with Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York),” says producer Kevin McCollum in a statement. “With a funny, original, and uplifting story; soaring songs; theatrical stage magic; and knockout performances, it’s truly what Broadway does best. This original musical taps into a universal truth and shows that at times the most random meetings can create family against all odds. It isn’t just a story about two strangers, it is a story about all of us who long for connection. We can’t wait for theatergoers across the country to come to the show as strangers and leave as friends.”

Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York) received eight Tony nominations May 5, making it one of the most recognized productions of the season. Playing the Longacre Theatre, the musical follows a naïve and impossibly upbeat Brit, Dougal, who has just landed in New York for his estranged father’s second wedding. When Robin, the sister of the bride, picks him up from the airport, they embark on an serendipitous adventure through New York City.

Directed and choreographed by Tim Jackson (who also oversaw the show in London), the Broadway run stars Christiani Pitts (Broadway’s King Kong) and Olivier winner Sam Tutty (Dear Evan Hansen), after both starred in the North American premiere A.R.T. production of the musical. Tutty also originated the role of Dougal in London. The romantic comedy is written by Jim Barne and Kit Buchan. For Broadway, Best and Tutty are joined by standbys Phoenix Best (Dear Evan Hansen, The Color Purple) and Vincent Michael (Safety Not Guaranteed, Mystic Pizza).

In addition to direction and choreography by Jackson, the Broadway production features scenic and costume design by Soutra Gilmour, lighting design by Jack Knowles, sound design by Tony Gayle, music supervision by Nick Finlow, and orchestrations by Lux Pyramid. Casting is by C12 Casting’s Stephen Kopel.

The musical is produced on Broadway by Kevin McCollum, Tim Johanson, Glass Half Full Productions, and Jamie Wilson Productions.

Winners will be named at The 79th Annual Tony Awards, set to broadcast live from Radio City Music Hall June 7, beginning at 8 PM ET on CBS and streaming on Paramount+ in the U.S. Grammy winner Pink will host the evening.

The American Theatre Wing’s Tony Awards are presented by The American Theatre Wing and The Broadway League.
