The Queens Economic Development Corp. broke a record with its 22nd annual Queens Taste event with 588 registered attendees in Long Island City on May 12.
The celebration of the borough’s food scene raised more than $100,000, which will go toward the QEDC’s general operation funds that it uses to attract, create and maintain jobs in the World’s Borough.
“I’m absolutely blown away by this year’s Queens Taste — our biggest ever,” said QEDC Executive Director Ben Guttmann in a statement. “Huge thank you to our entire team for pulling this event together, our generous sponsors for making this possible, and our restaurant and food partners for making this such a delicious celebration.”
John Capozzoli, a St. John’s student who founded XVI Entertainment, served as the deejay for the event at Sound River Studios, a cavernous gallery-style venue near Anabel Basin in the East River that also has an outdoor terrace at the water’s edge.
People flowed in and out of the venue and terrace to eat food and desserts ranging from charred octopus to Puerto Rican bread pudding. They then washed it down with craft beer, wine and mocktails. There were more than 40 vendors from throughout the borough.
