Members of the New York State Police — along with family members and community leaders — are coming together to remember troopers who lost their lives in the line of duty.
A memorial ceremony was held on Thursday morning in Batavia.
The event included a reading of the names of fallen troopers, and a moment of reflection to honor their service, sacrifice, and dedication.
Major Amie Feroleto, the Troop A commander, spoke on Thursday.
“Each name etched into the monument behind me represents more than a loss,” she said. “It represents a life of service, a commitment to others, and a legacy that endures. These men and women stood between order and chaos, facing uncertainty with courage, resolve, and selflessness. Their sacrifice reminds us that safety is not free. It is earned each day.”

New York State trooper public information officer James O’Callaghan talked about the event’s significance.
“It is very important for us to always remember the sacrifice they made for not only the community of the state of New York, but also in service of the state of New York,” O’Callaghan said.
“And like I said, we get a good attendance of family members and different, whether it be spouses, aunts, uncles, nieces, different family members for this. We have unfortunately a long list of troopers who have made that ultimate sacrifice in the line of service.”
Organizers say the annual tribute honors the courage of fallen troopers and the strength of the families they left behind.
