Despite a rainy New York afternoon, hundreds of Rockefeller Center visitors lined up with their umbrellas to see Broadway actors perform live at The Rink May 21. Here is a look at what happened during Act 1 of the month-long Road to Broadway concert series; every Thursday until June 11, Rockefeller Center is hosting a free outdoor concert.
For the May 21 concert, Jackie Hoffman and Ben Mankiewicz of Celebrity Autobiography served as hosts for the day. After a brief weather delay, the duo treated audiences built up the crowd’s energy through some well-placed wisecracks, in anticipation of some stellar vocals. & Juliet kicked off the afternoon as Gianna Harris sang an emotional “Baby One More Time” followed by Liam Pearce performed the rousing “It’s My Life.”
The Road to Broadway continues over the next three weeks with the following shows:
May 28: Act II
June 4: Act III
June 11: The Finale
Playbill has teamed up with Rockefeller Center to present a month-long concert series titled Road to Broadway. The noon concert will feature free Broadway performances at The Rink at Rockefeller Center, transforming the space into an open-air stage. Featuring live performances from some of Broadway’s biggest shows, each week will offer a distinct theme and exciting lineup.
All performances take place between 12PM and 1PM—be sure to arrive early and get the best spot for seeing all your favorite shows! Please note that all performances are subject to change.
For a front-row view, reserve terrace seating at Jupiter or NARO, or grab takeout from Under 30 Rock favorites like Lobel’s, Ace’s Pizza, or Shake Shack. Guests shopping or dining at Rockefeller Center can use their receipt to access a standing view from The Rink balconies.
Rockefeller Center is located just steps from New York City’s Theater District, making it a convenient stop before or after a Broadway show. Whether audiences are arriving early for dinner at one of the Center’s restaurants, enjoying a pre-show view of the city’s iconic skyline at Top of the Rock Observation Deck, or celebrating after the final curtain, Rock Center is an extension any visitor’s Broadway experience.
