Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathy, during his current visit to the United States of America, met Assistant District Attorney for the Manhattan District of New York, Matthew Bogdanos, to discuss ways to enhance joint cooperation in the field of recovering illegally smuggled Egyptian artifacts.

During the meeting, the minister praised the fruitful cooperation with the United States government regarding the recovery of Egyptian antiquities over the past years, appreciating the legal and diplomatic efforts made to track down and recover smuggled artifacts, including the recent recovery of 13 artifacts from the United States.

The Minister stressed that the legal procedures related to the recovery of antiquities require great efforts and close coordination between the various concerned parties.

In the meantime, the minister thanked the US side for its support and cooperation in this issue, stressing that Egypt always follows up this file and attaches the utmost importance to the recovery of its antiquities that left the country through illegal means and works with all international partners to recover them through all legal and diplomatic means.
