CITYWIDE — INTENSE, SUDDEN DOWNPOURS on Thursday flooded streets and basements across the five boroughs, killing two men — one in Flatbush and another in Washington Heights, according to The New York Times. The Flatbush man died after returning to his basement apartment to rescue one of his dogs; police scuba divers pulled his body out. The Manhattan man was found in his basement boiler room. The storm dumped up to three inches of rain in just 20 minutes, breaking daily records at LaGuardia and Newark airports.

Streets in Flatbush, Bushwick and Hollis were submerged, with residents seen clearing leaves and trash from drains by hand, according to a video posted on Citizen. Transit and airport service suffered major delays as floodwaters clogged sewers.

A wind advisory remained in effect Friday, with gusts up to 50 mph expected.
