FLATLANDS – A FAMILY IS looking for answers after a father of three was shot to death in front of his wife at a Utica Avenue laundromat on Monday, the New York Daily News reports.
Police said the shooting unfolded at around 8 a.m. on May 25 at the Xpress Laundromat, where officers found Kevon Lee, 41, of East 42nd Street, with multiple gunshot wounds to his body, along with another man, 68, with a graze wound to the foot. Both were brought to area hospitals, where Lee was pronounced deceased. Witnesses said a man in a black mask entered the business, shot Lee and quickly left without saying anything.
His wife, Khilifah Pierre, a hospital worker, said the two had been folding laundry when the shooter ambushed Lee from behind, and that she attempted to perform chest compressions to revive him but was unable to help. While police sources initially said the shooting could be gang-related, Pierre and other family members said he was a construction worker who lived an honest life, and that they have no idea why he was targeted, asking for anyone with information to come forward.
“I fear for my life and my kids’ lives. That person saw my face. I feel lost. I’m devastated,” Pierre told the Daily News.
