‘The Violence Is Brewing’ — Staten Island Group Explains Summer Shootings At Mayor Sit-Down

Mayor Zohran Mamdani met with Staten Island youth advocates ahead of the summer months. The group True2Life says more young people die from street violence there during summer. In a video, Mamdani said the city has to meet the group halfway. True2Life Program Director Mike Perry said young people need to feel cared for. He said violence often builds in winter and spills into summer with guns. Mamdani also pointed to summer jobs, mental health support, and community programs.
