The Kiwanis Club of Guadalupe is a longtime supporter of the Elks Rodeo Queen competition.

This year, they’ve chosen Savannah Salcido to represent their organization in the contest.

Salcido, who celebrated her 18th birthday on May 8, will graduate from Pioneer Valley High School in early June.

“First and foremost, I want to thank God for being here and having the blessing and honor to represent the Kiwanis of Guadalupe,” said Salcido.

Salcido is the third of Maria and Angel Salcideo’s four children.

She also has a brother, Angel Jr., 20, a sister, Elena, 19, and a sister, Julia, 14.

“From as far back as I can remember, my parents always stressed that you must work hard, be determined, and give your best effort in everything you do,” Salcido said. “All through high school, I have been involved with ag leadership, volleyball, swim, cheer, softball, soccer, FFA, AVID, Link Crew, and college prep courses.”

As if she wasn’t busy enough, she decided to add the 2026 Queen to her list of activities.

“My aunt Valerie convinced me to give this a try. I didn’t have the confidence and didn’t think I’d be able to do it. She convinced me that I should give it a try, and now I want to tell others not to let anything discourage you. You can do anything if you try.”

After high school, Salcido will join the Army Reserve.

“I come from a military family,” she said. “My dad served as a Marine for eight years. My older brother is currently in the Air Force, and my older sister is in the Army. I’m planning to be a combat medic and then get my degree so that I can become a labor and delivery nurse.”

Salcido’s fundraisers include a tri-tip dinner, followed by a cornhole tournament, and a fundraiser at Cool Hand Luke’s Restaurant.

“We have a lot of fun events planned that I’m really excited for,” said Salcido. “We all want to win, but I think one of the best things is how this brings the entire community together.”
