A New York woman named Francine Fortune is living up to her name.
Fortune, a Brooklyn resident, is a top prize winner of the New York Lottery’s 50Xtra scratch-off game, the New York State Lottery said in a press release on Tuesday. She scratched off the box worth $1 million, and she took home a lump sum payment of $416,325 after all required withholdings were collected.
Fortune purchased the winning ticket at 317 Marcus Garvey Liquors, also located in Bedford-Stuyvesant in Brooklyn.
As of Wednesday afternoon, there were still two top prizes remaining in the 50Xtra game, according to the state lottery. To win, players must scratch their ticket and uncover a matching winning number that corresponds to the $1 million prize amount, or reveal a “50X” symbol to multiply a lower-tier prize.
“New York Lottery scratch-off games generated $4,339,794,048 in total sales during fiscal year 2024-2025,” the lotto statement said. “School districts in Westchester County received $136,234,133 in Lottery Aid to Education funds during the same period.
The New York State Lottery is the largest and most profitable in North America.
