Non-profit Queens Centers for Progress (QCP) will hold a Broadway-themed gala in Corona next week to celebrate its 76th anniversary, honoring the organization’s rise from its foundation in 1950 to its role today as a group serving more than 1,200 people every year.
The non-profit, founded by a small group of parents and advocates in 1950, has expanded its reach over the past three-quarters of a century to provide early childhood education, vocational training, residential services and innovative therapies. All programs have been designed to help individuals with developmental disabilities achieve greater independence and quality of life.
QCP’s Broadway-themed gala will take place at Terrace on the Park in Corona on June 2, kicking off at 5:30 p.m. for VIPs and 6:30 p.m. for general admission.
The gala will feature a special performance by the QCP Players, the organization’s theater program, with the group set to present a musical number from their upcoming production of Annie Kids.
QCP Executive Director Terri Ross said the group’s annual gala is one of the “highlights of the year.”
“Our Summer Gala is always a highlight of the year, bringing together our community to celebrate the achievements of those who support our mission,” Ross said in a statement.
The upcoming gala will honor Runi Mehta, managing director Flagstar Bank who has served as chairperson of Big Brothers Big Sisters of NYC, and Jason Miller, a partner at lawfirm Otterbourg PC and a committed advocate for pro bono legal work.
“We are proud to honor Runi Mehta and Jason Miller for their leadership and commitment, and we’re especially excited to spotlight the incredible talents of our QCP Players,” Ross said.
The event will also feature dinner, award presentations and a celebration of QCP’s “legacy of service.”
