An early-morning engine fire near New York City’s Penn Station caused major disruption to morning commuters on Friday, May 29, as Amtrak and NJ Transit were forced to cancel multiple train services across the Northeast.

The fire broke out on an Amtrak work train in a Hudson River tunnel, close to West 31st Street and 8th Avenue, at around 1:30 am, city officials said.

Amtrak expected the disruption to services to continue until the afternoon, according to local reports. Credit: @grep_now via Storyful
