New York. – Reyna Cáceres, a 23-year-old Dominican woman, was shot in the left eye early Thursday morning in the University Heights section of The Bronx.
According to reports from the New York Police Department (NYPD), the incident occurred around 12:10 a.m. on Thursday, May 28, in front of the Aqueduct Lands Playground, located on Aqueduct Avenue, near Bronx Community College and West 181st Street.
Cáceres was shot in the left eye and was rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
The authorities presume that the young woman was an innocent victim who was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
In the scene, evidence of an outdoor gathering or party was found, including scattered cups, bottles, and coolers. Residents of the area reported hearing several consecutive shots before chaos erupted.
Researchers pointed out that the possible target of the attack was a relative of the victim, who is listed as a person of interest in at least three previous shootings. So far, no arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing.

Family members of Reyna Cáceres went to the crime scene visibly distraught and demanded justice for the young woman’s death.
