There’s a competitive Democratic primary race in New York’s 13th Congressional District.
The district includes parts of Upper Manhattan, including Harlem and Inwood, and neighborhoods in the Bronx, including Kingsbridge Heights.
The seat has been held by Rep. Adriano Espaillat since 2017.
On Thursday, Mayor Zohran Mamdani endorsed his challenger, Democrat Darializa Avila Chevalier, who has also been endorsed by the city’s Democratic Socialists of America chapter.
She joined NY1’s Bobby Cuza on “Inside City Hall” Friday to talk more about her campaign.
“I’m running because I’m tired of a politic that seems to ignore our communities when we deserve a politic that’s actually responsive to the needs of our community,” she said.
