NEW YORK (PIX11) — Hundreds submitted songs, millions of New Yorkers can vote and only one wins.

While the stakes aren’t as high as getting a record deal in Hollywood, the New York City 2-K program jingle contest is all the rage right now.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani said hundreds of people submitted their vision for the sound of 2-K in the Big Apple. How do you whittle down submissions? By getting help from two New York City music icons.

Lin-Manuel Miranda and Cardi B listened to and made the tough choices to get down to five. Now it’s your time to decide who gets the everlasting imprint on universal childcare in New York City.

The choices are: Gerald, Allegra, John, Amanda and Miyuki. To vote, click here. Voting ends at 10 p.m. on June 3.

All 2,000 2‑K seats will shift to full‑day programming, a significant change for working families who have relied on half‑day schedules.

The default model for 2‑K seats across the city will be full‑day and full‑year, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., 10 hours a day for 260 days a year. A typical school year lasts 180 days, and the mayor said the expanded schedule could save working parents at least $20,000 per child.
