June in New York City is packed with Pride events, but some of the best family-friendly ones are happening at the library.
The New York Public Library is hosting a huge mix of free Pride Month programming this year, from teen Anti-Proms and bracelet-making workshops to film screenings, book talks, and a late-night Queer Magic party in Midtown. Some events are designed just for teens or adults, while others are perfect for families looking for an easy, low-key way to celebrate together.
“These Pride offerings ensure that there is truly something for everyone to celebrate our history and community,” said NYPL President Anthony W. Marx. “We invite all of you to join us.”

Free Pride Month Events at the New York Public Library — June 2026
Anti-Prom Returns for NYC Teens
NYPL’s annual Anti-Prom is back for its 22nd year, giving teens a welcoming alternative to traditional school dances. The events are open to anyone ages 12–18 and focus on music, dancing, free books, and self-expression — no dress code or pressure attached.
The Bronx Anti-Prom already took place May 29 at Melrose Library, but you can still catch the Manhattan Anti-Prom, which happens June 18, from 6:30 -9 pm at the main 42nd Street library branch.
A Queer Magic Party at the Library
One of the more unique events this year is Library After Hours: Queer Magic on June 5, from 7:30-10:30 pm, at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Library in Midtown.
The free 21+ event blends music, dancing, crafts, games, and archival materials pulled from NYPL’s LGBTQ+ collections. DJ Eugene Tambourine will provide the music, and snacks and drinks will be available for purchase.
Pride Events Happening All Month
Libraries across Manhattan, the Bronx, and Staten Island will also host smaller events throughout June, including:
A screening of Kinky Boots at Roosevelt Island Library
A Pride-themed LGBTQ+ book tasting at Bloomingdale Library
Rainbow bracelet-making for teens at City Island Library
A screening of Milk at Ottendorfer Library
A conversation with graphic novelist Tillie Walden and writer Alexis Clements
A Pride party for Bronx teens at Baychester Library
A discussion of Harriet Tubman: Live in Concert at Harry Belafonte 115th Street Library
NYPL Is Joining the Pride March, Too
On June 28, NYPL staff members will march in the NYC Pride March carrying a “Libraries Are for Everyone” banner and handing out bookmarks and stickers along the route.
Families can also check out NYPL’s Pride reading lists and online LGBTQ+ archives, which include materials related to the Stonewall Riots and early Pride marches in New York City.
