Staten Island Restaurant Tied to Mamdani Event Closes; Officials Say It Had No NYC Health Permit

A Staten Island restaurant tied to a Mamdani event has closed, and officials say Istanbul Bay never had a New York City health permit. The Stapleton spot, known as Istanbul Bay Authentic Mediterranean Restaurant, operated at 500 and 502 Bay St. and did not reopen last week. Social media posts say the ownership closed voluntarily after almost a two-year run. The city health department said the restaurant has never been issued a permit.
