Included in the Brooklyn Park Police Department’s emergency alerts were these incidents:

May 21 — At 7:10 a.m., the fire department responded to 8500 63rd Avenue (Autumn Ridge Apartments) for a fire alarm. First arriving units found a fire in an apartment unit. The call was upgraded to an apartment fire. Auto aid was started by Plymouth, West Metro and Maple Grove fire departments. The fire was brought under control quickly by initial responding fire units and auto aid was cancelled. There were no injuries.

May 22 — At 10:20 p.m., officers were dispatched to the business area in the 5700 block of Brookdale Drive for shots fired. Upon arrival, two businesses within a strip mall were found to have been damaged from gunfire. During the initial investigation, it was learned that unknown occupants of a vehicle traveling Eastbound on Brookdale Drive fired shots towards the businesses. Bullet casings were located and recovered in the street. No injuries were discovered or reported. The scene was processed by Hennepin County Crime Lab Deputies.

May 23 — At approximately 10:47 p.m.., Brooklyn Park Police responded to the 8400 block of Adair Ave N for a reported robbery involving a weapon. Information gathered on scene indicated that the victim and her neighbor had been involved in a dispute over property. During this dispute, an associate of one of the residents confronted the victim with a handgun and stole the victim’s phone. It was initially believed that the suspect had returned to the residence, so officers surrounded the home and called all occupants out. Officers then continued their investigation and interviewed all individuals on scene. It was later determined that the suspect was no longer at the location and had left prior to officers’ arrival. The case remains under investigation.

May 24 — At approximately 7:47 p.m., officers responded to Oak Grove Park at 10251 Zane Avenue North on a report of shots fired. Bullet casings were located in the parking lot and processed by Hennepin County Crime Lab. No injuries were discovered or reported. Multiple agencies responded and there was a large police presence for a time. This incident is still under investigation.

– At 10:19 p.m., an officer working contract overtime at Walmart, 8000 Lakeland Ave N, was made aware of a fight inside the store. When the officer encountered the two male parties, one had a knife and the other had an apparent stab wound to the abdomen. The suspect was arrested without incident, and the victim was transported to the hospital. The two parties were known to each other.

– At approximately 11:13 p.m., officers responded to the 6200 block of 65th Avenue North on a report of shots fired. Officers located a bullet casing in the parking lot. No injuries were discovered or reported. The incident is currently under investigation.

May 25 — At approximately 11:47 p.m., officers in the area of Brooklyn Boulevard and Regent Avenue North heard gunshots coming from the parking lot of 7401 Regent Avenue North. Officers located one individual involved and observed another person running northbound. A perimeter was established, and a K-9 track and drone search were conducted, but no suspects were located. No injured individuals were found or have come forward. Multiple agencies, including the State Patrol helicopter, responded to assist. This incident remains under investigation.

– At 3:49 p.m., officers were called to Fleet Farm, 8400 Lakeland Avenue North, for a report of two suspects concealing a large amount of gun parts and ammunition. The suspects were using a knife to open the packaging. There was a large law enforcement presence, and the suspects were arrested without incident upon leaving the store.

May 26 — At about 1:30 p.m., Brooklyn Park Police Officers conducted a death investigation in the 6900 block of Lakeland Ave. Officers closed the roadway for several hours during the investigation, which caused a significant traffic disruption. Brooklyn Park Officers were assisted by the MN Bureau of Criminal of Apprehension and the Hennepin County Water Patrol. This matter is still under investigation by Brooklyn Park Police Detectives.

May 27 — At approximately 5 a.m., the Brooklyn Park Police Tactical Response Unit conducted a High Risk Warrant Service at the Fairways Apartments located at the 8600 block of Edinbrook Crossing. The warrant was executed at the request of Brooklyn Park detectives in relation to an ongoing investigation. One adult male was arrested on scene. The incident continues to be under investigation by the Brooklyn Park Police.

– At 3:43 p.m. officers were dispatched to a report of a domestic incident involving a firearm in the 7500 block of Regent Avenue North. The victim fled the residence and the suspect was still inside. There was a large law enforcement presence, and an armored vehicle was utilized. The suspect exited the residence and was arrested without incident. The investigation is ongoing.

Included in the Brooklyn Center Police Department’s emergency alerts and community notifications were these incidents:

May 26 — At 9:25 a.m., Brooklyn Center Police Officers were dispatched to a domestic assault with a knife near the 5300 block of Ponds Drive. The adult male suspect left the scene prior to officers arriving so a K-9 search was conducted, but the suspect was not located. The adult female victim suffered minor non-life threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Area schools were put in a secure mode as a safety precaution, however there were no threats to the schools.

May 27 — On May 24, Brooklyn Center officers and Brooklyn Center Recreation staff responded to reports of a large group of juveniles gathering at Firehouse Park. Over 50 youth caused disturbances, and the park was closed. The group dispersed after Rec staff and officers issued dispersal orders. Later that evening, officers monitored additional large groups near 2900 Bass Lake Road. Metro Transit Police Department officers assisted with helping teens leave the area, and some businesses temporarily locked their doors.

On Monday, from 3:30-8:30 p.m., officers were again dispatched to Firehouse Park for fights, fireworks, and disturbances involving over 100 juveniles. Thank you to Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office and Brooklyn Park Police Department for assisting. Some local businesses secured their doors due to property damage.

These “park takeover” events are trending across the metro and are quickly organized through social media, making them unpredictable.
