1. Hochul touts cellphone ban successes
The first school year with a statewide ban on cellphones in schools is coming to an end.
Gov. Kathy Hochul, who spearheaded the ban, says a survey shows the ban has been a success.
2. Goldman and Lander trade barbs in primary debate
It was clear from the start of last night’s debate how these candidates feel about each other.
“This is not a moment for career politicians desperately seeking another job,” Rep. Dan Goldman said in his opening statement.
He was describing Brad Lander, the former city comptroller and mayoral candidate who’s challenging Goldman in the Democratic primary for New York’s 10th Congressional District, which covers Manhattan south of 14th Street and a swath of Brooklyn.

3. New York Democrats eye single redistricting amendment
New York Democrats in the state Legislature are expected to introduce a single constitutional amendment to reform New York’s redistricting process late yesterday, an effort they insist is a response to President Donald Trump’s push for Republican-led legislatures to engage in mid-decade redistricting, opening up the state’s options currently stymied by an independent commission adopted through a previous constitutional amendment in 2014.
The effort, backed by Gov. Kathy Hochul and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, will not affect the 2026 midterms because of New York’s requirement that a constitutional amendment be passed by two consecutive, separately elected legislatures before going on the ballot, delaying any redraws until the 2028 election cycle.
