The only answer to rising temperatures across the South is a cool, sweet treat. (I don’t make the rules.) Ice cream has long been the favorite summer go-to, whether your memory jumps to the ice cream truck playing its tune down your street, the canteen at the pool selling Nutty Buddies for a quarter, or perhaps using rock salt to make Fresh Peach Ice Cream by hand.
One of my favorite nostalgic ice cream treats is still, to this day, the Drumstick. These classic sundae cones first hit the scene in 1920s Fort Worth, Texas, thanks to the Parker brothers of the Drumstick Company. With their crispy base, ice cream center, chocolate shell, roasted peanut topping, and the best part—final chocolate bite at the bottom of the cone—the concoction quickly became a Southern favorite.
And now, some hundred years later, you can get a Drumstick Blizzard at Dairy Queen.
The fast food chain recently announced that the Drumstick Blizzard would be coming back out of their DQ Freezer for a very limited time—only the month of June, as the Blizzard of the Month. This delicious treat mixes real Drumstick pieces, chopped peanuts, and chocolate shavings with Dairy Queen’s world-famous soft serve ice cream, yielding a creamy, beloved comeback Blizzard that you won’t want to miss.
You may also have heard about DQ’s new limited-time $7 Meal Deal, which brings you a full, hearty meal—with dessert, of course—at a fraction of the cost you’ll find elsewhere. The meal deal comes with three-piece chicken tenders or a classic cheeseburger, crispy regular-size fries, a 21-ounce drink, dipping sauce of choice, and a sundae.
