STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Northwell’s Staten Island University Hospital in Ocean Breeze has earned multiple national distinctions for clinical excellence from Healthgrades, a site Americans use when searching for a doctor or hospital.

Among the hospital’s 2026 accolades are a Specialty Excellence Award, placing it among the top 10% nationwide for prostate surgery. It also received five-star ratings in several key service areas, including transurethral prostate resection surgery and coronary bypass surgery, the hospital has announced.

In addition to these national honors, the hospital was named among Healthgrades’ America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Prostate Surgeries for the second consecutive year (2025-2026).

The recognitions are based on Healthgrades’ analysis of MedPAR data for years 2022 through 2024 and represent three-year estimates for Medicare patients only.

“Our team is deeply honored to receive these recognitions from Healthgrades,” said Meagan Sills, president of SIUH. “These awards reflect the dedication of our physicians, nurses and staff to providing high-quality, patient-centered care. Through continuous investment in advanced technologies, clinical training and process improvement, we strive to ensure every patient receives the best possible outcome.”

Each year, Healthgrades evaluates risk-adjusted mortality and complication rates for over 30 common conditions and procedures at approximately 4,500 hospitals nationwide. This analysis identifies top-performing hospitals in key specialty areas, including cardiac care and prostate surgery.

Healthgrades’ 2026 analysis of three-year Medicare patient data from 2022-2024 revealed significant potential for improved outcomes. The study found that if all hospitals performed similarly to five-star hospitals during this period, on average, 230,466 lives could have been saved and 156,797 complications could have been avoided, according to the hospital announcement.”

“Healthgrades’ specialty awards identify the nation’s top-performing hospitals in key service areas, helping consumers find high-quality care tailored to their specific needs,” said Dr. Alana Biggers, medical advisor at Healthgrades. “We’re proud to recognize Staten Island University Hospital for its consistently superior outcomes in prostate and cardiac surgery.”
