June 5, Moriah Evans: […/+*^%<>€£¥$&@!!!!^^^], June 13. A new evening length dance by Moriah Evans that confronts the body as a site of political and existential conundrums. Shows at 7 pm on June 5-6 and 11-13. The Chocolate Factory Theater, 38-33 24th St., Long Island City.

June 6, LIC Waterfront 5K, 9 am. At least 2,250 runners and walkers participate in this 11th annual family-friendly event which benefits the Hunters Point Parks Conservancy. Special dash for youngsters (ages 2-9). $35 for adults, $20 for children. Kick off at the intersection of Center Boulevard and Borden Avenue in Long Island City.

June 6, Queens Poetry Symposium, noon. With the theme “Poetry on Kissena,” this full-day symposium provides opportunities for enthusiasts to engage with the literary community, discuss the nuts and bolts of writing and publishing poems, and put together a poetry collection. June 6, Queens Rising Night Market, 4 pm. A night of live entertainment, including a 6 pm DJ set by Ralph McDaniels and a 7 pm show by Conjunto Los Chachos. New York Hall of Science Backyard, Flushing Meadows Corona Park.

June 6, Power Play: Sculpture and Photography, 4 pm. Opening reception for a solo show by Donnelley Marks. Through sculpture and photography, the NYC–based artist transforms found and discarded materials into works that explore perception, impermanence, resilience, and the liberating power of play. June 6, Hands on History: Weaving, 1 pm. Hands-on History is a free activity series every first and third Saturday of every month. Weaving was an important trade for colonial women.
