BRONX, N.Y. (PIX11) — While New York City is a food mecca full of cuisines from every corner of the world, you may want to do some research before you explore a new restaurant.
To ensure that restaurants comply with food safety rules, the NYC Health Department conducts unannounced inspections at least once a year.

Grades are typically assigned after inspection, but restaurants with repeated violations may face closure.
Since the start of the spring, dozens of restaurants have been forced to shutter in Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Queens.
To add to the list, the following restaurants in the Bronx have been closed due to sanitary violations:
Addeos of the Bronx at 1056 Morris Park Avenue
Evidence of mice or live mice in food or non-food areas
Live roaches in food or non-food areas
Filth flies or food/refuse/sewage with FRSA flies or other nuisance pests in food or non-food areas
Raw, cooked, or prepared food is adulterated, contaminated, cross-contaminated, or not discarded in accordance with the HACCP plan
Aicha Organic Juice Bar at 2960 3 Avenue
Properly scaled and calibrated thermometers were not provided
No hand washing facility in or adjacent to the toilet room or within 25 feet of a food preparation, food service, or ware washing area
Toilet facility not provided for employees or patrons when required. Shared patron-employee toilet accessed through the kitchen, food prep, storage area, or utensil washing area
Malina’s Kitchen at 2345 Jerome Avenue
Evidence of rats or live rats in food or non-food areas
Hot TCS food item not held at or above 140 degrees Fahrenheit
Food Protection Certificate not held by the manager or supervisor of food operations
Wiping cloths are not stored clean or dried, or in a sanitizing solution between uses
Yummy Juice Bar at 737A Lydig Avenue
Toilet facility not provided for employees or patrons when required. Shared patron-employee toilet accessed through the kitchen, food prep, storage area, or utensil washing area
