A shirtless man walked into the 50th Precinct stationhouse in the Bronx and sucker-punched two police officers, both women, in a random, unprovoked attack, cops said Friday.
The two officers, ages 31 and 51, were standing near the sergeant’s desk at the precinct in Kingsbridge when the bare-chested suspect ambushed them from behind around 12:55 p.m. Thursday, according to law enforcement.
The younger officer was struck in the back, while her colleague suffered a blow to the head, causing bruising, cops said.
After punching the officers, the suspect fled out of the stationhouse on Kingsbridge Ave., with what one police source described as nearly every cop in the precinct hot on his tail.
A plainclothes officer was first to reach the suspect just more than a block away on W. 238th St., knocking him to the ground and striking him multiple times before other cops arrived and placed him in custody, sources said.
During the arrest, an additional cop, a 28-year-old man, suffered minor injuries after the suspect punched him in the head, police said.
Wilton Pena, 36, was charged with assault, menacing, disorderly conduct and harassment for the attack.
Pena lives in Mott Haven, more than five miles from the 50th Precinct stationhouse, cops said. He has one prior arrest on record for an assault in December, police said.
