BROOKLYN, N.Y. (PIX11) — A 98-year-old man was beaten with a broomstick and a metal chair in the lobby of his Brooklyn apartment building on Thursday, police said.
The elderly man was attacked soon after entering the building near Maple Street and Rogers Avenue in Prospect Lefferts Gardens at around 3:50 p.m., according to the NYPD.
For decades, the man was the eyes and ears of the block, helping the property clean and keeping things in order, neighbors said.
“It’s sad…he did not deserve that,” a victim’s longtime friend told PIX11 News on Friday.
The victim was approached by a woman handing out our flyers in the building lobby before an argument escalated.
Police said the suspect allegedly punched and kicked the man at his doorstep before beating him with a broomstick and a metal chair.
The victim was treated at the scene for minor injuries. A family member told PIX11 News that he is resting and recovering from the attack.
But they want the woman arrested. The suspect ran off and remained at large, police said.
