WILTON — Officers arrested two New York men accused of stealing a $300,000 check from the town of Wilton, according to police.
Wilton police said the check was issued as a partial payment for the construction of the new Police Department building. The check had been deposited into an account opened by 62-year-old Davis Segui, of Brooklyn, N.Y., who was impersonating the intended recipient, according to police.
Investigators found that, immediately after the stolen check was deposited into the account, $150,000 was transferred to a personal account belonging to Mahamadou Sillah, 26, of Bronx, N.Y. Police said Sillah then “withdrew and benefited from those funds.”
Judicial records show the alleged crimes occurred in March 2024. During a lengthy investigation, police used bank surveillance footage and other methods to identify Segui and Sillah as the suspects, police said.
Segui was apprehended in New York City in July 2025 by U.S. Marshals and transported to Connecticut. He is charged with first-degree larceny and first-degree identity theft, and was arraigned in state Superior Court in Stamford July 31, 2025. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges, according to judicial records.
Segui’s bond initially was set at $1 million, according to police. Judicial records show he is being held on a $250,000 bond in the case and is next scheduled to appear in court June 16.
Sillah was taken into custody by the New York Police Department’s Bronx Warrant Squad and transported to Wilton police on Wednesday. He is charged with first-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit first-degree larceny, police said.
Sillah’s bond initially was set at $500,000, though judicial records show he is being held on a $300,000 bond and is next scheduled to appear in court July 28.
