WHITE PLAINS – A Yonkers man was convicted Friday of murder and manslaughter charges for fatally stabbing his 78-year-old brother-in-law in 2024, according to the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office.
A jury found John Singh, 55, guilty of second-degree murder, a Class A felony, and first-degree manslaughter, a Class B felony, in the death of Bernard Barua, also of Yonkers.
Singh is scheduled to be sentenced on July 17 before Judge Maurice Williams. He faces a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in prison and remains held at the Westchester County Jail.
“Bernard Barua’s life mattered,” Westchester County District Attorney Susan Cacace said in a statement. “When the defendant stabbed him to death, he forever changed the course of both of their lives. Today, Mr. Singh was finally held accountable for his depraved conduct, and we will seek to ensure that he spends decades in prison.”
The case was investigated by the Yonkers Police Department. Prosecutors said the case was handled by Trial Division Deputy Chief Lana Hochheiser and Assistant District Attorney Brianna Ciuffi.
