National Grid sent the BioBus to the Alley Pond Environmental Center for its New York City debut in celebration of World Environment Day, the principal United Nations outreach day to inspire global awareness and action for the protection of the environment, on Friday, June 5.
The BioBus is an all-electric mobile science laboratory that features high-powered microscopes and interactive exhibits.

Traveling across New York and Massachusetts, it provides students in these areas with hands-on STEM education.

In addition to visiting the STEM laboratory in the BioBus on June 5, kids and adults also went to the Alley Pond Environmental Center, where they learned about the free programs offered there to inspire people to help preserve the planet.

“Thanks to the generosity of National Grid, we’re presenting lots of free programs for the community,” Alley Pond Environmental Center Education Director Bonnie Bromberg said. “Children and families will have the opportunity to meet live animals at our animal meet-and-greet. We’re doing guided family nature walks and we have our discovery table with a variety of materials from animals and nature to inspire curiosity.”

The National Grid BioBus, which was built in partnership with the nonprofit science education organization BioBus, will return to the Alley Pond Environmental Center, located at 229-10 Northern Blvd. in Douglaston, on Wednesday, July 8, and Tuesday, July 28.
