I don’t mean to get all territorial here, and normally, as a New Yorker, I’m the guy who’s giving directions to those who ask, or helping someone get their stroller off the subway in a timely manner.

But as a New York Knicks fan who’s pulling so hard for the franchise’s first championship in 53 very very long years, I have questions for whoever let San Antonio Spurs superstar Victor Wembanyama into Gramercy Park so he could relax and draw.

Now: Here’s what we don’t know before I go on a rant. Was this video shot between Games 2 and 3? Did this happen recently? If it did happen on Sunday — when the video started going viral — then we’ve got to have a talk, New Yorkers.

You need a key to get into Gramercy Park

This is well-known fact. There are reportedly 39 buildings that have access to the private park thanks to the use of a key. Otherwise, you can’t go in.

In other words: This means that someone either gave their key to Wemby to use in the park OR someone let him in. I imagine looking up at a 7-foot-4 slender dude and saying, “Come on in, of course you can come in!”

Who let Victor Wembanyama use the key to Gramercy Park

I reiterate: IF this happened over the weekend, then I’m furious. It’s a battle right now for all New Yorkers. We’re not letting Wemby have some down time in the park. We’re pushing him out of the paint! We’re challenging his shots, setting hard screens, flummoxing him with shifty defenses! Not letting him relax, not even in an exclusive park where — and this part I very much understand — he doesn’t have to hear die-hards screaming at him like they did recently.

Was it someone in the Spurs organization who had access to a key? Was it some New Yorker who isn’t an elite ball knower who just thought it would be nice to let in the tall French superstar who was probably very polite? Or was it someone who let him in exchange for an autograph? Which means they DID know who they were letting in.

If so, that Gramercy Park key access should be revoked immediately.*
