Last week, state lawmakers passed legislation to pause the construction of new large-scale data centers for one year.
The bill is now on Gov. Kathy Hochul’s desk and requires her sign-off before it could take effect.
State Sen. Kristen Gonzalez joined NY1’s Bobby Cuza on “Inside City Hall” Monday to talk about the data center moratorium and more.
She is the chair of both the Internet and Technology and Elections committees.
Gonzalez’s district includes parts of Queens, Brooklyn and Manhattan, including neighborhoods like Astoria, Long Island City, Greenpoint, Williamsburg, Stuy Town, Kips Bay and Murray Hill.
“The reason we need the pause is because our energy grid is in crisis, and we actually don’t have the energy to power such large centers,” she said.
