A 17-year-old female student was stabbed multiple times outside of a Brooklyn school on Tuesday afternoon, police reported.
According to law enforcement sources, the incident took place at around 12:30 p.m. on June 9 near the El Puente Academy for Peace and Justice, a NYC public high school located at 250 Hooper St. in Williamsburg.
Sources told amNewYork the student was stabbed multiple times in the leg and arm following a dispute at the location. EMS rushed to the location and brought the victim to NYU Langone-Cobble Hill Hospital, where she was treated for non-critical injuries.
Officers from the 90th Precinct responded to the scene; officers recovered a weapon at the crime scene, but police could not yet confirm what the weapon was.
Authorities said one person is in custody, but they could not yet say if the suspect is a student at the school or the motive for the attack.
The investigation remains ongoing.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for NYC Public Schools sent a statement to amNewYork saying school staff and safety agents responded to the emergency.
“This senseless act of violence is deeply troubling and will not be tolerated. School staff and Safety Agents immediately responded, following all safety protocols,” the spokesperson said. “Thankfully, no life-threatening injuries were reported. We are conducting a full investigation, taking all necessary action, and providing appropriate support to the community.”
