TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – Residents from Topeka, Manhattan, Emporia and surrounding areas are cleaning up after Monday night’s severe storms.
Here is where residents can dispose of brush and debris.
Topeka/Shawnee County:
City of Topeka officials said Public Works crews mobilized all available staff are are actively working to clear streets and address storm-related issues.
Residents are encouraged to report storm-related concerns, including downed tree debris, flooding issues, or traffic signal outages by:

Residents can dispose of storm-related tree debris through their regular trash service. To assist with collection, Shawnee County Solid Waste requests that tree limbs be bundled and cut into sections no longer than 4 feet in length and no more than 18 inches in diameter. Contact your refuse provider with questions.
City of Topeka officials said your reports help identify and respond to issues as quickly as possible.
Officials said they are hearing that residents are putting brush in the easements. They would like to reiterate that limbs need to be properly disposed of.
Manhattan/Riley County:
City of Manhattan officials said crews are focusing on clearing streets and opening roadways. The work will take several days to complete. Officials said to continue to use extreme caution as limbs, downed power lines, and debris are hazardous.
Officials said when streets are clear, crews will start citywide cleanup efforts. Officials instructed to pile limbs and yard debris at the curb, like for spring cleanup. Crews are expecting to start neighborhood cleanup on Monday, June 15. No household waste (like shingles, boards, fences, etc.) will be picked up. They will ONLY pick up limbs, branches, and yard debris.
City of Manhattan officials said they will follow up with more information on their website as plans are finalized.
Riley County officials said the county will accept storm debris, trees, and limbs at the transfer station. Riley County residents are not charged, however, commercial haulers and contractors will be charged.
Emporia/Lyon County:
Officials from the City of Emporia said the City clears major branches from roadways and from City parks as needed following storm events. Residents may also take storm debris to the Transfer Station located at 3100 W South Ave. during normal business hours.
Lyon County officials said they had crews out in the county looking for debris but have not found anything of significance.
