Kansas State University’s AI Symposium teaches public about the growing technology

  • October 14, 2025

Manhattan, Kan. (WIBW) – Manhattan community members can learn more about artificial intelligence this week.

Kansas State University’s AI Symposium is open to both university students and the general public.

“We are kind of increasing the awareness of artificial intelligence, both in its foundations and in its applications,” said K-State computer science professor Pascal Hitzler. “And its societal impacts.”

The three-day event features panels and workshops with guests from the university and beyond.

“It’s exciting, you know,” said guest speaker and Fellows Fund venture partner Nick Chong. “Like I said, I’m a wildcat, so this is an exciting time to bring the discussion around AI back on campus and hopefully generate some new innovation ideas out of it.”

One goal of the event is to express how artificial intelligence really works.

“Understanding what happens with AI or how AI actually manages to do what it does helps to de-mystify what it does,” Hitzler said. “So I think it also helps take the scare out of it.”

Each day focuses on the use of AI in different disciplines.

“Agriculture is a very complex thing,” Hitzler said. “And bringing agriculture into the future, of course, is important for Kansas. It’s also of course important for Kansas State because we’re the land grant university here.”

“Like everything else in technology, right, there’s always iterations of new things,” Chong said. “This is a new frontier, so this is how we embrace it and learn it and tackle it.”

The AI Symposium continues Wednesday and lasts through Thursday at K-State’s Hale Library, Manhattan Public Library and on Zoom. Registration information can be found HERE.
