MADISON, Wis. — Two Wisconsin students are advancing to the 17th annual Jimmy Awards in New York City.
Ava Greenberg from Middleton High School and William Kastner from Kettle Moraine School for Arts and Performance were selected as part of the local Jerry Awards to move on to the national level of competition.
Overture Center for the Arts hosts the Jerry Awards every year to showcase high school musical theater students in Wisconsin. This year’s awards took place on June 7, where both Greenberg and Kastner performed.
The two were part of 74 students from across the state to receive an “Outstanding Lead Performance” award. Those were determined after reviewers went to schools to see each of their productions.
Greenburg got her award for her portrayal of Eurydice in “Hadestown: Teen Edition,” while Kastner got his for Hunk/Scarecrow in “The Wizard of Oz” and Cpt. Joseph Riser in “The Hello Girls.”
The two will now head to New York to perform on June 22 at Broadway’s Minskoff Theatre. The winners get awards and scholarships and can help launch a career in the film, television, music or Broadway industry.
