A man wearing a San Antonio Spurs jersey was attacked by a group of people in Manhattan, according to police, shortly after the team defeated the New York Knicks in Game 3 of the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden.

The 39-year-old victim was walking to his hotel near West 47th Street and Eighth Avenue in Hell’s Kitchen when the group came up to him and quickly surrounded him, police said. They allegedly punched and kicked the man and stripped him of the Spurs jersey he had been wearing.

The victim was taken to Mount Sinai West with cuts to the faces as well as bruises, but is expected to recover.

Police said the suspects ran off immediately after the attack, and were still being sought. Anyone with information regarding the incident was asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
