The city of Syracuse is gearing up for the summer pool season.
Parks Commissioner Syeisha Byrd says they are nearly fully staffed with lifeguards, thanks in part to the city dropping its residency requirement.
Despite this, the department is still hiring.
“I want people to visit our parks to get in our pools to meet our staff to make friends to have picnics,” Byrd said. “That’s what summer is about.”
On top of lifeguards, the city is also looking to hire pool aids.
Byrd says that the city has not announced an opening day for its pools, but they typically open in the third or fourth week of June.
