Talk about bringing the Knicks back from the dead.
A Brooklyn funeral home is hosting a watch party for Game 4 of the NBA Finals on Wednesday night.
Sparrow Funerals, which bills itself as a boutique contemporary funeral home, says doors will open at 7:30 p.m. ahead of the 8:30 p.m. tip-off.
They posted on their Instagram, “We know a thing or two about loss. See you Wednesday! Go Knicks!”
The team has been in an NBA Finals drought since 1999 and it hasn’t won a championship in 53 years.
Judging from the responses on Instagram, people found it pretty hilarious.
The funeral home also referenced comments Karl-Anthony Towns made about his late mother after Game 1. He said he could feel her calm and presence on the court. He says he’s always looking for signs she’s with him.
The funeral home commented at that in its initial post announcing the watch party.
“Some people spend every day helping people carry the one they’ve lost. KAT has been doing the same thing, out loud, in front of the whole world…during the NBA Finals.””
Not everyone was amused. Some questioned Sparrow’s tongue-and-cheek usage of Town’s comments earlier in the series. News 4 has reached out to the funeral home for comment.
Capacity details for the watch party weren’t clear. ESPN reported five times as many people reached out to the funeral home than the business expected, and they might have to cap the event at 120.
