Sabry’s Seafood Restaurant has been an oasis of fine, fresh seafood on Steinway Street in “Little Egypt” since 2005. Named for Chef Sabry, whose name means “my patience,” you won’t have to wait long for a fabulous seafood feast Egyptian style, along with traditional side dishes and salads, all at reasonable prices.

Owner Mohammed welcomes all to his warm, friendly establishment where everyone is treated like royalty. Don’t let the “no frills” dining room fool you… the food is so good here you’ll see the crowds of diners inside at the clean, tidy tables, and outside on Steinway Street enjoying family meals together. The waiters are so kind and efficient like George, who brought us warm, homemade bread straight away and a quartet of fabulous appetizers. We tore off pieces of fluffy pide bread and dragged them through house made babaganoush, creamy hummus drizzled with fine olive oil, nutty tahini sauce, and moussaka eggplant with tomato sauce. These dishes create a visual palette of color and texture for your eyes, and your palate. No alcohol is served, but there is non-alcoholic beer, soft drinks, and delicious minty lemonade to sip on.

Without a doubt, the most popular dish on the menu is the signature Seafood Combo for two, though three or four could easily share this generous platter, after those wonderful spreads and a mixed green salad. The Seafood combo is a perfectly seasoned, dazzling presentation including a whole lobster ready to be cracked open, fresh mussels, tender calamari, juicy scallops, plump shrimp, and fish fillet, all served piping hot with lemon wedges and a side of their delicious brown rice.

If you prefer your own dish, choose among fresh striped bass, porgy, branzino, tilapia and perch from the ice case, and have it grilled Egyptian style, fried, or baked to order. Jumbo shrimp, calamari, scampi, and salmon are grilled to order with seasonings, olive oil and lemon for a light and savory dish. Tajine is a traditional Middle Eastern clay pot that renders Sabry’s seafood, rice, and saffron into a very satisfying and flavorful dish ($26.95).

The atmosphere at Sabry’s Seafood Restaurant is very festive, and why shouldn’t it be? Everyone enjoying a great seafood meal and time with their family and friends, being served by gracious waiters is a wonderful treat that we all need now. For dessert, try their homemade baklava, or Egyptian pastries and some brewed mint tea.
