New York City is gearing up for its annual pride parade on June 28. It’s one of the biggest, and longest-running marches in the world and this year, LGBTQ+ star Peppermint is serving as one of the parade’s grand marshals. As the first openly trans contestant on “RuPaul’s Drag Race” and the first openly trans woman in a principal role on Broadway, Peppermint is no stranger to breaking glass ceilings. She shares what it means to be chosen for this position and the importance of showing up for queer people in communities. NBC News’ Joe Fryer interviewed Peppermint ahead of Pride 2026.
